Wyoming Weekend Vacation

This week's trip combines a touch of historic flavor, along with some beautiful scenery. The trip starts with a quick jaunt up I25 going north out of Denver to Cheyenne, WY. Just north of Cheyenne you will take US Highway 85, which travels northeast to Torrington, WY. The trip will continue through Torrington to Lingle, and on to Fort Laramie. Fort Laramie is a National Historic Site located between Lingle and Guernsey Wyoming. Fort Laramie, established in 1834, was established as a private fur trading fort. Plan on spending several hours and get the tour of the fort.

The trip then continues on to Guernsey State Park, where if camping is your thing, you can spend a night in a tent next to Guernsey Reservoir. The next stop is a quick trip just south of Guernsey, just off of highway 26 to see the historic Oregon Trail Ruts.

Back on the highway, the trip takes you to Wheatland. Just south of Wheatland you will take highway 34 to Laramie, which takes you through a scenic drive of Bosler Canyon. For those that want the short but scenic trip home, highway 287 is a nice trip from Laramie to Fort Collins, but the extended road trip takes you from Laramie to Walden Colorado, and from Walden to Fort Collins via the Poudre Canyon Highway, before a short trip down I25 from Fort Collins returning to Denver.

The extended trip is about 560 miles of total travel, for those that elect to take the short cut home from Laramie directly to Fort Collins, the total trip is roughly a hundred miles shorter at 460 miles.
